WordGlue is a generic conversion and rendering engine for DOC and DOCX files. Use it to convert Office documents to vector or raster images such as XPS, PDF, JPEG and PNG. WordGlue can be extended to support HTML, VML, SVG and many other formats.
WordGlue is provided with full documentation, example code and projects written in C# and VB.NET, and a document viewing utility for testing purposes.
Designed for use in multi-threaded environments like ASP.NET, WordGlue is thread safe, fast and light on resources, and 100% managed code.
WordGlue.NET does not depend on helper applications like Microsoft Office or OpenOffice.org for the conversion process. Although using helper applications has been an accepted method for converting Office documents in the past there are some drawbacks with such an approach.
Office applications are primarily designed for interactive use, where single process and single threaded models are common. However single threading can introduce bottlenecks and limit scalability, and unexpected dialog boxes can make your application appear to hang.
Sometimes licensing restrictions may not permit you to automate an Office application. Microsoft in particular are quite restrictive in the ways MS Word can be automated, and automation of Microsoft Office applications from non-interactive software is not currently supported by Microsoft.
There are also security issues you will need to be aware of when automating Office applications server-side. Office applications are frequent targets for viruses and malware. While a security problem on a workstation is relatively easy to contain as the impact is usually limited, an insecure server is potentially much more serious.
